Whatcha Working on Wednesday

Hope everyone is well on this wonderful sunny Wednesday :)

Things have been wonderful on my part so far this week. Last night we had parent/teacher meeting for Tabitha and all I can say is 'WOW'. When my husband and I left after taking a hour and a half, we left as very proud parents :) We did not know what to expect at her meetings since it was our first time attending High School ones and let me tell you, nothing like Elementary. Line ups and more line ups...it took us longer waiting to see the Teacher then it did when we spoke with them. She has five teachers which teach a total of eight courses. Let's just say for the past two years she has been seriously discussing about becoming a Dentist and if she continues with these grades she will do well. She had 4 high 90's, 3 mid 80's and sadly, which I don't find fare but one 70%. Of course it is her most weakness course of all in which upsets me because it brings her total average down. Can anyone guess what that might be??? Phys-Ed of course. She just is not a active child, I call her my Artsy Fartsy kid for a reason. But we can't do anything about it, I just asked her to try her best and that is all I can expect of her. She even looked at me and said, 'Mom, a Dentist doesn't have to do gym when they are working on their patients'. She has a point but my job is to make sure she is doing the best she can. ALL of the teachers said that she is a idol student. One wanted to adopt her and another said she was perfect, then corrected himself saying he was perfect and she was the runner up. She attends her classes positively, gets her work, asks many questions when needed and homework always done. I am telling you, there was NOT one thing negative said about her. Makes me as being a parent very happy because I know I am doing my job RIGHT :)))

Then tonight we had the meeting for my little Abigayle who is now in Grade 1. She also is doing excellent and a bit ahead of her class. She loves to participate and has been reading small books on her own. What a great improvement from last year. Both of my girls attend a all French school so it is very important that their speaking, writing and reading skills are excellent. Last year when Abby started Kindergarten she spoke about 80% English and 20% French but this year she is reversed. Which makes me very happy. Don't get me wrong, English is still very important to me for my girls to have but French is so much harder to learn. Especially when it has to be just about perfect in all three categories. I am just so pleased to know that in less then a year my little girl has improved so much. Her only weakness is that she is a Messy Marvin. Talk about sloppy work! Mommy has a hard time with this because I guess I am a bit of a perfectionist...OK not just a bit...ALOT...LOL. So guess what Abby and mommy will be working on? Much neater work. She takes after her daddy for this, all he could do was chuckle because he knows it's true. But overall, if that is all I have wrong with her I am not going to complain. She is also a well behaved girl and gets involved in discussions.

I am sorry that I am bragging but when you see and hear about all those kids who are troubled, it makes me happy knowing that I am doing the right job with my girls and teaching them the right things. It's moments like this that you become such a proud parent :)

Now onto what has been keeping me so occupied...

As you can see here, I have four of these chairs. I painted two of them back sometime around Feb or March but never really finished them. So the other day, I dug out the other two. I got them painted and all then all four stained. They all turned out so nice, I love how they turned out.
Sadly I don't have a garage or work shop so all my work has to be done either in the house or outside if it's nice.

Here are two sitting outside today to dry from the sun because I stained the two others yesterday in the house and boy, I think the fumes were getting to everybody by nighttime...LOL.
I have the two from yesterday all put back together and placed where they need to go. I love how they turned out :)
As you can see in the first picture there is a box of some sort...Well I wanted hubby to build me a cubby to put my mason jars in that hold my sugar, flour, tea bags and brown sugar. It's exactly what I wanted :) My hubby works so well and I love it when he is able to make me something because he has a busy schedule. But he knows I appreciate it ALOT ;) I am not sure about everything staying put here so of course I will be playing around with things...
This next item hasn't been painted yet but it will be done in a beige color, sanded and then stained. I can't wait to get it finished because I have been waiting for this item for a very long time. Once again, I did a awesome job :) Got to love those husbands...
Once it's completed, I will make sure to post a pic for you all to see.

The next item made me extremely happy because I have only been waiting since early Summer for hubby to get this one done and finally, YES he did it and I love it! Wish I had a second one now because I have two lights in my hall...BUT I love this light so much. I wasn't sure when I seen it in a catalogue but I just loved it when I finally got it.
Of course as I mentioned in my last post, I have been also working on my swap gift but you all must wait to see what everything is. I don't want to give away the gifts. After all a surprise is the best thing, right??? Makes looking forward to receiving and seeing all the goodies :)

The last of the items I am about to show you are the items that I ordered from Farmhouse Primitives. I am sooooo pleased with my order, I want more...LOL. I ordered this coverlet and just love...love...love it! It is ALOT bigger then I thought and beautiful. Sadly here in Canada, I can not find these large coverlets anywheres. But let me tell you, I am so pleased and no regrets from purchasing it. I was second guessing at first because of the price but no worries now after seeing it in person. I am hoping for Christmas someone will make me a blanket crane...hint...hint...LOL
The other item is my fowl rack. I am awful when I purchase things online. Hubby gave me a measuring tape to make sure I measure things before I order BUT I don't always take it out...LOL. So when I got my fowl rack I thought it was going to bigger but am still very happy with it. I fell in love with it ever since I saw Linda from Behind My Red Door. Hubby could of built me one, but where would I find the hooks that goes on it. So I figured instead of racking our brains and such, I would just order it done :)
Now for my birthday I had purchased a black bowl to hang from it. But as I mentioned I kept thinking it would be much larger and since it was not, the bowl was just too large for it. This was the only other bowl that I had that hung. I also wanted to add other things but I guess that teaches me to make sure I measure before ordering...LOL. But you know, thank goodness it wasn't bigger because it wouldn't have fit this spot :)

I will be back once again, probably not till later Sunday since it looks like we have a crazy rest of the week and weekend ahead of us. I can't wait till things slow down because I really need to get busy making my Christmas sweets. Everyone on my husbands side of the family will be home for Christmas this year and on my side it will be only my baby sister and my family. So it will be much quieter on my side but my parents are not much of the baking kind of people, they look forward to what I make :)

So until next time my friends, have a great rest of week and weekend!

I think it is part of our job description to brag about our kids so you go rigth ahead!!

Love the chairs done over like that and hubby did a great job on the cubby.

The light is perfect for a hallway and the coverlet and fowl rack are wonderful as well. Isn't it fun to get new goodies?

Have fun baking!!!

I agree! Brag all you want.. so many kids have issues these days, it's very sad. When your child makes you proud by working hard and being a good person, it's something to celebrate. My daughter and I had a discussion recently about this woman in the US (forget her name but she was on The View) who was very hard and judgemental on single moms and their "troubled" kids.. I have been for 17 years and my "troubled" kid is in 2nd year university getting good grades (honours program), has a ton of friends, can speak 3 languages, started to learn a 4th and plans on a 5th.. was an exchange student in Italy for 3 months last year and is genuinely a nice person.. and champion for the underdog. Why do people feel they can judge others so harshly and group us all together? Yes.. lots of bad parents out there and some are married.. and some of their kids are horrors!! Sandy, you be proud of those girls. You're doing an amazing job and nobody can say differently. All of your blogger friends are proud of you I'm sure and I'm so happy to know you now.

Now.. as I step off my soapbox.. I apologize to all for going off on a tangent.. but us moms have to stick up for each other, right? :D .. LOL.. Anyway, I must say that I love your makeovers, and your gorgeous prim treasures. Thanks to you ... I plan on making a fowl rack.. never heard of it before reading it on your blog! I have a rack that I can use and I'm on the lookout for hooks. I also bought a breadbox in the summer at a yard sale.. I'm thinking mason jar holder as well, or perhaps bowl holder. Thanks for the inspiration.

Just wanted to say, for those not aware, I am Sandy's swap partner so to see what I get, please follow my blog and it will be posted just as soon as possible... plus I would love new friends! I know we are both just trying to finish up, my goal is to have everything packed up by Sunday night.. fingers crossed!

Thanks for reading my ranting!

Hi Sandy~
It was so fun catching up on your blog. I guess it's been longer than I thought since my last visit. All of your projects are just wonderful! Love the chairs and what a cute idea for storing your mason jars in!
Mostly, how proud you must be of your two daughters. Don't you just love those kinds of parent teacher conferences? It's a nice reassurance knowing that you are doing a GREAT job!
Oh, I have a throw just like your new one and I love it too! Funny, I was thinking the same thing about a blanket crane. :)
I hope you all have a wonderful week!
Hugs & blessings~ Birgit
