With summer almost here, we were busy getting our deck ready. It all started off with us putting up a roof. We were all set and budgeting $5000 for the project BUT when the contractor came over for measurements and so on, it turned out to be $10,000...OUCH!!! I was not planning on that so with disappointment we are holding off on our renovations. You see we have to have something on our deck because the sun is there from 11am to about 8pm. It gets way to hot and because of that we can't get much enjoyment. So we desperately needed something. After shopping around and comparing prices we found a beautiful canopy gazebo 12X12. It takes up about a third of the space. So on Sunday we had a beautiful day here, hubby was up and at it at 8am...staining away. And because of the sun being right there all day and it being so hot, the stain dried quickly. By mid afternoon, hubby had the gazebo up. I didn't think about taking photos while he was working...sorry. Well it is just beautiful! I haven't taken any pics yet for I am still waiting for my new patio furniture to arrive from Sears. I can't wait...I am just like a little kid waiting for Christmas...lol
So with preparing the deck and everything else, I was also very busy at making things for my Garage Sale/Primitive Craft Sale. I made up a bunch of night lights, candles and clothes pins dipped in wax and then rolled in different spices. Oh they smell so good!!! Face cloths coffee died and baked to perfection, tied with homespun fabric and finished off with a rusty star. Larger candles dipped in wax and rolled in spices with a cute little tea light to match. I even took some pics for you all to see. I am very pleased with how everything turned out. My house is smelling awesome right now...lol
Last but not least I ordered a penny mat from Jean over at Blue Jean Primitives (you can find her under my favorite blogs) and it came in yesterday. So hubby went over to Maine to pick up my parcel...he always has me in mind...hehehe. Where I get my packages delivered, this man makes homemade wooden kitchen accessories. He does such wonderful work! Hubby bought me a handmade wooden strainer. I also received some cute little pears from Jean and they fit just right in this little strainer. Thanks again Jean...your work is just BEAUTIFUL! I took a couple of pics of my new found items. I haven't found a spot quite yet for my penny rug BUT don't you worry I will find that right spot for it.
Yesterday was a day full of rain and very chilly. Not that I wanted rain but we really do need it. It is very dry here. So nothing got done outside. And then today is a cloudy and yet another chilly day. I guess they are forecasting this all week. So that means I will be busy in the house finishing off my items for the Sale.
So I shall run for now and get some work done in the house. I hope where ever you are the sun is shinning for you ;)

Yes, the weather is beautiful in Nebraska!! Sorry to hear about the OUCH estimate on your roof. Not an ideal way to spend your $, no fun anyway. :( Our deck gets direct sun all day too. I was looking at those gazebos and thought that would be a perfect solution. Did you just screw it in where the stakes would go if you had it on the ground?? Please let me know. We have windy days here and need something to ancor it down! I think they look great!! Can't wait to see pictures of your deck space!
Wow, you have been busy! You must get a lot of customers! Wish I could go!! All your handmades look so prim and perfect!
BlueJean Primitives has quite the talent too! I love her penny rugs. Your so lucky to have one of her creations!
Hope you are having a great day!
Just wonderful, and the gazebo has to be the answer to not spend so much. Do you really sell all that you make? The reason I ask is we have a annuel fleamarker every August and I wonder if this would bring in more money/

Skunk Hollow Country Store and A Time for Primitives
Thank You Lisa and thank you for stopping by...very much appreciated.
I am a person who has to keep busy ALL the time, so I do what I do best...CRAFTS.
I can't wait to see pictures of your new gazebo!
And your creations are just so sweet -- along with the rug you just ordered. Everything was such fun to peek at.
We're expecting some rain here too over the next couple of days...
Hi Sandy,
I loved going back and seeing all your neat prim things. They do make us happy don't they? I am anxious to see your canopy because we have the same problem with sun on our deck all day. The last few years we just use it for my plants and prim decor because of that. Such a waste!
Love the look of your prim candles! Where in New brunswick do you sell them? My friend from new Brunswick has a hard time finding prim things so I'd love to pass on the info.
hugs, Linda
